ANNUAL REPORT 2023 – ’24

As we near the conclusion of another thrilling and eventful academic year, it is crucial to express our gratitude for the exceptional support and collaboration provided by the Management, well-wishers, and parents in ensuring the seamless functioning of our institution. Their praiseworthy endeavours have propelled our institution to soar to unprecedented levels of achievement. Now, it is time for us to pause and contemplate the fruitful year that has transpired.
The annual report of Bhavan's Newsprint Vidyalaya, Velloor, serves as a concise documentation of our institution's activities and accomplishments, and it is with immense pride that I present it before this esteemed gathering.
Principal Smt. Vijayalakshmi N A retired on 30th June 2023 and Smt. Kalyani N P took charge as the new Principal on 1st July 2023 .
We have a strength of 1342 students, who are nurtured by 75 teaching and 30 non-teaching staff. Along with academics, special efforts are being made incessantly to enable our children to imbibe values, develop the requisite skills to face the challenges of the competitive world.


SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENTS
“Excellence is perseverance in the midst of obstacles.”
• In SSCE, out of 94 students, 91 students secured Distinction and 16 students secured A1 in all the subjects.
• Topper in Science stream is ARJUN V KAIMAL with 97.4%
• Topper in Commerce stream isAMY MARIAN SAM with 94.2%
• Out of 123 students who appeared in SSE,107 studentssecured Distinction and 17 students secured A1 in all subjects and
• BHAVYA MARY SANOJ was the topper with 98.8%

COMMENDABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
• V.Sriram of class XII successfully completed his BSS Diploma with first rank in Swarapoorna Hindustani Tabala Course conducted by BSS Central Mission
• V. Sriram secured Second position in tabala in State CBSE Kalolsavam 2023.
• In the CBSE Regional Science Exhibition 23-24, organized by Cochin Refineries School, our team comprising Anamika K Arun and Gouri N Nair of IX C, are selected for the National Science Exhibition.
• Rohn Jacob, Alen Noble and Gregory Wilson of Std IX were selected for the National level competition conducted by Evolve Robotics.
• Cyrus Eldho of VA, won the first position in the XII Inter Bhavan’s Chess Competition conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Perumthiruthi.
• Lakshmi R and Devananda G Nair of VIII B bagged second position in the All India Bhavan’s Virtual Science Exhibition Vigyan Yatra 2023 conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai.
• In Young Innovators Programme 4.0 organised by Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council, Avani Sunil and Shivananda Raj of Std X were adjudged the winners at the district level and received a cash prize of RS 25,000.
• Lalitha K, teacher, Dept. of Mathematics won the prestigious Malayala Puraskaram instituted by Malayala Puraskara Samithi for the best anthology in Malayalam for her poetry collection ‘Chuvanna Mannu’.
• Shri Robin Chacko, teacher Physical Education Department secured Gold Medal in High Jump at Masters State Athletic Meet held at Kasargod.

CO-SCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES

• The School Assembly sets the day and paves way for our students to rejuvenate their spirits, remain rooted to the moral values and unleash their vitality. Students are given ample opportunities to exhibit their inherent talents.
• Eminent personalities are invited to talk to the students on special days.
• All the important days are observed with due spirit and full enthusiasm.
• Environment Day,Ramayana Week, Onam, Children’s Day, Reading Day, Yoga Day, Founder’s Day, National Education Day, Independence Day, Teacher’s Day,World Students Day, Sreekrishna Jayanti , Navarathri, Eid, Kerala Piravi, Hindi Day , Sanskrit Day, Christmas etc were observed in all gaiety.
• Our school hosted the Inter school quiz competition- Kriti and students from variousschools participated.
• A group of six students from std IX and XI, accompanied by our staff members Smt. Jayasree K R and Sri Anoop, had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Student Exchange Programme with Bhavan’s BP Vidya Mandir, Nagpur. In return, students from Bhavan’s BP Vidyalaya visited our school in the month of January, creating a truly enriching experience for all involved.
• Tarang 2023, the intra school literary and cultural competitions, was conducted for all the classes to identify the innate talents of the students.
• Various scholarship examinations were conducted to inculcate an inquisitive attitude in our students.
• Exhibitions conducted served as a platform for students to showcase their skills, brilliantly portraying their exceptional aptitude in different areas.
• During the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, our school provided a platform for Vidyarambham, a significant ceremony where our youngand eager learners embarked on their journey of education by writing their very first letters.
• The Comprehensive Evaluation by the team from Shikshan Bharathi, led by Smt. Usha K, Education Officer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, observed and evaluated the teaching-learning process in theschool and gave feedback.
• Purulia Chhau , a Lecture Demonstration and performance organized by Spic Macay and Kalabharathi, was performed in the school auditorium with the intention of popularizing and preserving the traditional art forms of our country.
• Football coaching started in the school under the aegis of Lea, the Sports School.
• Newsprint Soccer, the interschool football tournament conducted by the Alumni of the school was organized.
• As part of celebrating National Mathematics Day, an Inter-School Paper Presentation Competition FUNZIONE TRIGNOMETRICA, was organized by our school.

LAUDABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

• Anika Krishnan of VIII A, Abhiram M Ananad of V B and Noopura K Anoop of VII C secured various ranks in the District Level Sugama Hindi Examination conducted by Hindi Prachar Sabha.
• The primary level of the Aryabhatta Ganit Challenge examination was conducted with the participation of around 95 students. Among them, Dev Nanadh Santhosh of IX B, Srihari Muralikrishnan of IX C and Vaishnavi S Nair from X C distinguished themselves, performing exceptionally well in the exam and qualifying for the next level.
• Amulya Satheesh of VII C secured the I rank at the district level in the International Science Olympiad 2022 conducted by Silver zone Foundation, New Delhi.
• Gregory Wilson of IX C and Avani Sunil of X B were selected individually to participate in the 2nd round of the Hack 4 Future competition conducted by Saraswathi Vidyanikethan, Elammakara.
• Harshith R of VIII B and Hridika Bibin of IX A were selected to participate in the State Level Wild Wisdom Quiz instituted by WWF.
• In the WIZQUIZ, All India Inter-school Quiz competition organized by the National Defence Academy, our team comprising Roshan Regiand Hrishikesh B of Std XII got selected into the zonal levels.
• Sradha S and Shivanandha Raj of X A successfully qualified the prelims of the Indian Navy Quiz organized by Navy Welfare and Wellness Association.
• In Amritakiranam Medi quiz conducted by Kerala Government Medical Officer's Association held at Kottayam, Devnandh Santhosh and Srihari Muralikrishnan of Std IX secured second position. They also received a cash prize of RS 2500.
• In Ganit Wizard Maths Quiz conducted by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar in connection with National Day of Mathematics, Alby Jinse and Goutham Vinay of VII A secured second position.
• In Udaan Tech Nex organised by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir ,Eroor Rohn Jacob of IX A and Devananda G Nair of VIII B secured third position.
• Janaki Rajesh of XI A and Jesbin Sunny of XI A secured third position in the Intaerschool Maths Quiz organised by SN Public School Poothotta.
• Our students participated in 24th All Kerala Bhavan’s Cultural Fest 2023and bagged various positions.
• Participants from our school secured A grades in the State CBSE Kalolsavam 2023 held at Sree Sharadha Vidyalaya, Kalady
• In the Kochi Sahodaya Kalotsavam 2023, our students won the First Runners Up Trophy in Category 3.
• We won the First Runners Up trophy in Labyrinth Kalakriti 2023, organized by Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad.
• In Tihai Srushti, organized by Bhavan’sMunshiVidyashram, Thiruvankulamour students won the runners-up trophy for the school.
• We bagged the Second Runners Up trophy in the Evolve Robotics Competition conducted at Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad.
• In the MIT App Inventor Tinkering Challenge conducted by Bhavan’s Elamakkara, our students Gowrishankar S and Hemanth Prakashan of Std VI won the first position.
• Our students secured prizes in other competitions like
? Insignia, Literary Competition conducted by Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya
? Magnum Opus –Inter School Tech Fest organized by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Girinagar.

? Inter School Tinkering Lab Competition organised by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar
? Fresco, the inter-school art and craft fest conducted by Rajagiri Public School, Kakkanad
? Nadanirjari, musical fest conducted by Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal.
? The National Anthem & Patriotic Song competition conducted by Chavara Cultural Centre
? Sanskrit Fest organized by Chinmaya International Foundation Veliyanad.
? Anokha 2023 organised by Chinmaya Vidyalaya,
Thripunithura.

SPORTS AND GAMES
With an aim to achieve physical fitness and to instill valuessuch as discipline, team spirit andsportsmanship lot of opportunities are given to our students.
• The 18th Annual Sports Meet was conducted for both Primary and Secondary sections on the school premises with much zeal. Chief Guest Shri BrittoClemmydeclared the annual sports meet open.
• In the CBSE cluster XI athletic meet at SN Public School Poothota, our students secured various prizes. Diya Sara Bose and Olivia Sarah Robin qualified and participated in the National CBSE Athletic Meet held at NH Goel World School Raipur.
• In the Munshi Athletic Meet conducted at Bhavan’sAdarshaVidyalaya, we emerged champions in the Sub Junior Girls and Boys Categories.Our School won overall 4th position in the meet
• In the Kochi Sahodaya Athletic Meet conducted at SNVPS, Tripunithuraour school emerged champions in the Sub Junior Category.
o Joanna Sunny of VI C was adjudged the Individual Champion in the Sub Junior Girls Category and Delvin Kurien of XII C was the Champion in U-19 Boys Category.We held the 4th position in the meet
• Our school secured the championship trophy in the Kottayam District Central School Sports Meet 2023 conducted at Municipal Stadium, Pala.
• In the CBSE Cluster XI Volleyball tournament U-19 Boys category, we won the Second Runners Up Trophy.
• In the Inter School Football Tournament, conducted by Rajgiri Christu Jayanti, our team secured the second position. Jimmy Varghese of class XI B was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper.
• At the Football Tournament, conducted by Life Valley International School Kottayam, our team emerged Champions.
• In the 66th Kottayam District Athletics Championship 2023-24, our students secured various prizes.
• In District Level Yoga Sports Championship, Esther Susan Jobin of X B, Ameya P Dileep of VI A and Aaradhya R Menon of IV D secured prizes at the district level and qualified to participate at state level competitions.
• Cyrus Eldho, a chess prodigy from class V secured various prizes in a variety of competitions conducted across our state.
• In the Multisport Fest hosted by Bhavan Vidya Mandir Eroor, Smt.
Subhalakshmi from the Hindi Department won second position in the 200m brisk walk event. Smt. Reshmi, the School Counselor, and Smt. Sharika from the FA department won the third position in the Yoga Display competition.
ORIENTATION SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS
Our school and our PTA joined hands to conduct various interactive sessions, career guidance programmes etc for students to make their learning more meaningful. To name a few

• Session on Space Exploration for classes VIII, IX and XI by Dr. AnkushBhaskar VSSC, ISRO.
• Career Guidance workshop for classes XI and XIIby Sri. Jeevan G, Logic School of Management
• Orientation session on MUN for classes VI-IX by Sri Prasahant, Bespoke Experiential Learning and Activities.
• Session on Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Awareness for classes VIII, IX and XI by Shri. Mobin K Eldho, Cyber Forensic expert from Kerala Police Academy.
• Session on How to prepare for UPSC and other Competitive exams for students of VI to IX and XI by Vedhik IAS Academy

 FACULTY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMMES

• Inorder to hone the professional skills and to keep abreast with the ever changing teaching-learning process, all our teachers including the Principal ,the Vice Principal and the Assistant Vice Principal have attended various workshops related to their specific subjects, NEP 2020, Skill Development, Basic Life Support, Strengthening Assessment and Evaluation Practices, Health and Wellness, 21st Century Skills, Gender Sensitivity in Schools etc. conducted by CBSE, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and various other competent agencies.
• Principal, Smt Kalyani N P attended the XIV All IndiaConference for Principals of Bhavan’s Secondary and Sr. Secondary Schools at Bhavan’s D.R.A. Vidyalaya, Chandigarh
• Smt. Ligy P Prasad, the Vice Principal of our school was appointed by CBSE as a resource person for the ‘Capacity building programme on NEP 2020 held at Viswadeepthi Public School, Adimali, at Sree Sankara Vidyalaya, Vaikomand Vidyadhi Raja VidyaBhavan, Kalady.
• Assistant Vice Principal Smt.Sindu C Nair and Primary Coordinator Smt.Sini V were the resource persons for a Capacity Building Programme on Secondary Mathematics organized by Center for Excellence, CBSE at The School of the Good Shepherds, Thiruvananthapuram.

SPECIAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS

• Children who require special care and attention are provided complete support and guidance by our special educator and the health and wellness teachers.
• Mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of our students are given primary importance through child centric approach, Physical Education Classes, Yoga and Fine arts.
• Kalimuttam (No book days) and Mini Annual Days, were organized for the students of Primary and Secondary to showcase their innate talents. The students enjoy these days and engage in several fun-filled activities.
• To raise awareness on health and wellness, various workshops were organized. To name a few:
? Session on Parenting A Bliss by Smt.SarithaIyer, Associate Professor Ettumanoorappan College for parents.
? Students of classes I and IV attended a Workshop on Health and Hygiene and Lifestyle tips for Strong Immunity by Dr. ChithiraAmbu BAMS, MS, Chief Medical Officer Ennakkathara.
? Session on ‘Importance of yoga in life’ for classes IX–XI by DrSatheesh Varma, AssistantProfessor of Psychology, ChinmayaVishwaVidyapeeth, Ernakulam, and a
? Workshop on Heart and its Health for students of VIII, IX and XI by Dr.PriscillaSkaria,Family Physician HNL Health Clinic .

NCC

• The NCC Wing of our school belongs to the 21 Kerala Battalion, Ernakulam. We have 29, boy and 21 girl cadets.
• Our school hosted the Combined Annual Training Camp in which 650 participants from 27 institutions participated. Our cadets actively participatein various community development programmes like the Cleanliness drive, Unity Run, Anti-Drug Campaign etc.
• KumariAnamikaArun of class IX C was adjudged the best dance performer, Junior wing category in the 21 Kerala Battalion NCC Combined Annual Training Camp held in our school.
• Rohn Jacob S of class IX A participated in Firing Snap held during Inter Group ThalSainik Competition 2023-24 held at NCC Complex West Hill, Kozhikode.

 OUTREACH PROGRAMMES

Compassion, service mindedness and empathy are inculcated in the minds of our young children by involving them actively in charity and service.
• The ORU POTHI CHORU programme initiated by the Social Service Club takes the lead in collecting orupothichoru on every Wednesday and is distributed to the needy ones in the cancer ward of Kottayam Medical College.
• In recognition of the importance of World Food Day, our students collected thoughtfully selected items of groceries, demonstrating their compassion and generosity and they presented this generous collection to an old age home in Puthiyakkavu and BalikaBhavan in Ramapurram, Pala, providing hope, comfort, and sustenance to those in need. This act beautifully exemplified unity, kindness, and the true essence of humanity.
INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTS
• To elevate aesthetic allure of the school, the floor at the school entrance and the main corridor was tiled .
• The children's park underwent a splendid transformation, adorned with new playground equipment, creating a captivating and enchanting space for young ones to explore and enjoy.
• To ensure constant water supply a new well has been dug-up up in the school compound.
• The rooms of the Principal and Assistant Vice Principal were renovated.
LIBRARY
Our school has a library with a collection of nearly 15450 books. As part of National Library Week celebrations, United Books conducted a Book Fair in the school auditorium.

OPEN HOUSE

Open houses and class wise meetings are conducted periodically that enabled the interaction of parents with the teachers.

PTA

PTA played a pivotal role in the progress of the school and they extended a whole hearted support in all our endeavors.

ALUMNI

To utilize the rich experience of our old students, Alumni association of our school is officially registered.
